The Story
Circa 1890. This excellent 18KT gold Victorian signet ring is engraved with an insignia that features two lions, a crown, the sun, and what appears to be a sheaf of arrows. A crown nearly always signifies sovereignty, authority, or a connection to the monarchy. Combined with the lions, it strongly suggests nobility or aristocratic ties. The house is likely of British origin (or possibly French). Notice the tiny blobs of red wax encrusted within the engraved design. These heavy rings were used to seal letters and documents, serving as a form of authentication.Â
